Five simple commitments

I am writing to share an initiative from my friends at Act on Mass, who have recently gotten together with progressive allies to develop the “Every District Accountable: Good Government for Mass” pledge.

The pledge includes 5 simple and rather basic commitments that they are asking legislators and prospective legislators to make to help ensure transparency and accountability across the state.

  • Vote in favor of bills you have co-sponsored on committee and floor votes.
  • Host at least two in-person constituent town halls per year in your district.
  • Support legislation to provide public funding for elections.
  • Vote to reinstate 8-year term limits for Speaker and Senate President.
  • Uphold the will of the voters on legislative reform ballot initiatives, including public records law and election-day voter registration.

As a prospective legislator, this is a pledge that I am pleased to make. It aligns with what I consider good governance and the responsibilities of an elected official to the voters who elect them.
