WHY I AM RUNNING

The primary election is on September 1st so my campaign is moving into high gear.

Dear friends and neighbors,

I am running for State Representative in the 10th Middlesex District, serving neighborhoods in Waltham, Newton, and Watertown. The primary election is on September 1st so my campaign is moving into high gear. I am running against a longtime incumbent and I need your support .

I am running because I believe the district needs more active representation instead of a representative who keeps a low profile and aligns closely with leadership. I want to champion   the issues I deeply care about including climate change, plastic pollution and improving our waste and recycling systems. If elected, I plan to join the Zero Waste Caucus.

Beyond environmental policy,  I am increasingly concerned about the impacts that the high cost of living has on families, small businesses and municipalities. The cost of healthcare has become unaffordable. I am a strong supporter of Medicare for All; a single payer system that covers everyone and eliminates profit from our healthcare system. America is the only country in the developed world that ties healthcare to employment, where access to health care is not guaranteed and where a single diagnosis can wipe out a family’s entire savings. I am part of a growing constituency that wants our healthcare system to work for patients, not profits.

I support H.1450 and S.860. An Act Establishing Medicare for All in Massachusetts and an Act relative to primary care access H. 2537 and S.867 and H.1370.  An Act relative to Massachusetts primary care for you. These bills will reduce costs, invest more resources in primary care and encourage patients to see their primary care doctor annually.

I also support key state climate legislative initiatives, H.3539 / S.2249 Tactical Transition to Affordable, Clean Thermal Energy and H. 3446 An Act Relative to Municipal Voices in Gas Utility Work.  These bills promote the transition off methane gas and give authority to municipalities to work with the utilities to prioritize renewable sources of energy.

They would allow local governments to obtain detailed utility project data (such as pipeline age, leaks, materials) to allow local review of repair plans to avoid conflicts with other municipal projects and promote clean energy alternatives while balancing local needs with utility operations.

A contribution to my campaign would be most welcome. Every dollar is a powerful commitment of support. You may click on the "Donate" link on my website. If you prefer, you can write a check to the Committee to Elect (CTE) Alison Leary and mail to (or drop off) 192 Chapel Street Newton MA 02458.
